Is there a green space in Red Deer that’s special to you? Why not adopt it?

Red Deer’s Waskasoo Park system is the envy of many cities. You can help protect the parks and the wildlife that inhabit them by adopting a park.

Your commitment can be as simple or as involved as you choose. With Adopt‑A‑Park, you can work as an individual, group, or business to protect the green spaces that make living in Red Deer so unique.

Who can adopt a park?

Anyone can be an Adopt‑A‑Park volunteer! We welcome volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Adopt‑A‑Park volunteers are individuals, families, groups of friends, non‑profit organizations, sports teams, youth groups, clubs, community associations, businesses—and everything else in between!

What would I have to do?

Adopting a park is a long-term year-round commitment, but the amount of time you put in each week or each month can vary. If you are looking for a one-time litter cleanup opportunity, please check out the Green Deer Spring Cleanup Campaign.

Here are some examples of what adopting a park can mean:

  • Picking up litter along trails, manicured parks, or natural areas.
  • Keeping an eye open for any/all of the following, and reporting each as appropriate:
    • large/heavy littered items
    • vandalism
    • needles
    • rough sleeper camps
    • invasive plants and animals
    • general park condition
  • Cleaning graffiti (thank you to the Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre for providing free graffiti removal kits for our Adopt-A-Park volunteers!)

Please also note that the "park" you adopt does not necessarily have to be a formal park node of Red Deer's Waskasoo Park system (like Bower Ponds or Three Mile Bend Recreation Area). Your "park" can be any piece of public land that has some grass or other plants, and it can be as small or large as you want.

After filling out the online form, Green Deer organizers will be in touch with you further discuss your desired park and level of commitment.

  • Bower Place Fitness Park and trail along Barrett Drive
  • Trails in wooded area along Piper Creek, between 32 St and Bower Place Fitness Park
  • Clearview Meadows Playground
  • Coronation Park
  • Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary and nearby trails along exterior perimeter
  • Galbraith Park
  • Glendale Exercise Park (on Greig Drive)
  • Grandview Escarpment Park
  • Grandview Linear Park & Pathway
  • Kin Canyon (south end)
  • Green space inside Lampard Crescent
  • Lancaster Green Community Gardens and surrounding green space
  • Lancaster Linear Park (along 30 Ave, between Notre Dame Plaza and Lancaster Drive)
  • Lancaster Linear Park (between houses on Langford Crescent and Lewis Close)
  • Maskepetoon Park
  • McLean Park
  • Green space across from École Oriole Park School (bordered by Olsen Street, Oleander Drive, Taylor Drive, and Openview Close)

  • Southbank Trail from Capstone to CPR Pedestrian Bridge
  • Southbank Trail from CPR Pedestrian Bridge to Gaetz Park
  • Southbank Trail from Gaetz Park to the Kerry Wood Nature Centre
