We pay special attention to the needs of Central Alberta students. All of our school programs are directly tied to the Alberta Education curriculum. This enables us to offer programs on topics that may be difficult for teachers—due to space, materials, or time constraints—to take on themselves. With a 118 hectare (300 acre) nature sanctuary out our back door, specialized equipment and materials, as well as a top-notch interpretive staff, we can offer teachers an easy solution to their curriculum challenges.

school & youth program information
Click the links below for detailed information on the programs we offer for school and youth groups. The School & Youth Programs At-A-Glance table gives a good idea of what programs will work for different grades based on the Alberta Education curriculum. Click on the name of each program in the table for more information on that program. Homeschool groups are encouraged to book any program that interests them based on their students’ ages and curriculum goals.
COVID-19 safety measures
We know COVID-19 has brought many new challenges to our school and youth groups. We are committed to providing safe nature experiences, and we know that no single solution will work for everyone. That’s why our program fees now include travel within Red Deer, Penhold, and Blackfalds. Travel costs outside these cities are also kept to a minimum; please see the Frequently Asked Questions for details.
To better ensure your students’ safety, we now offer several options for most programs you book with us to maintain physical distancing and help you save on busing:
- at your school or at a site within walking distance of your school;
- fully outside at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, Fort Normandeau, or a location of your choice; or
- virtually via Zoom.
When you book your program with us, simply let us know what safety measures are required for your group, and we will be happy to meet your needs.
Planetarium shows are not available at this time due to COVID-19 safety measures.
We are working to expand our list of school & youth programs that can be delivered virtually. If there is a virtual program that you would like to book but you do not see it listed here, please contact us to discuss how the program(s) in which you are interested can be delivered virtually.
